Day 4 - Sunday, September 8, 2013

Golfing and Beach Day

Just like a broken record - everyone gathered at Dog River for Coffee and then, after a couple of hours, went across the street to Bette's for Breakfast.  It was Sunday morning, (peak time), so they put us in the meeting room in the back - maybe they just wanted us out of the way, and away from the other customers.....

The forecast wan't very good - possibly some sailable, but lite winds late in the day.  Most of the guy's went Golfing.  They said they would go for 9 holes, but they ended up playing all 18.  Big Air Jim said he got lots of exercise driving a golf cart up the hills.  There were a few highlights:
  • Mike took a big divot - in front of the ball (it was the ball that made the divit - he drove it straight into the ground).
  • Eddy shot a personal best on the front nine!  (He doesn't want to talk about the back nine..)
  • Blaine tried "pre-anger" -- getting mad at the ball before he hit it.  IT WORKED!

I asked what else happened - Blaine said "What do you mean - It's Golf - nothing happens..."

Gerry and Julie took in the Hood River Fly-In and toured the museum - impressed by old auto's.

Handre and Lazelle went for a Hike, then sat in the sun at the Event Site.

Handre and Lazelle - enjoying the sun...

I had a relaxing day, had my bike tuned at the local shop, and went for an SUP ride at the event site - paddling to the end of the spit and then down to Well's Island and back.  Definitely a water ski day (if only I had my boat!).

Glassy water...
At the end of the day, a few of us gathered at the event site - to wait for the promised wind.  For a a minute it looked like it might blow - it was even enough to entice Bruce Peterson out on his  prototype 10.1m sail and 125 litre Roberts - but even a windsurfing god like Bruce couldn't make it work...

Bruce - on his new 10.1 - he actually pumped onto a plane twice...
